The School of
Rural Science and Agriculture includes the discipline groupings of Agronomy,
Soil Science, Animal Physiology and Animal Science. The School was established
in 2002 from the old School of Rural Science and Natural Resources and
is now the management grouping of the Faculty of the Sciences responsible
for teaching and research in the agricultural science disciplines. The
School education goals and philosophy focus on the training of undergraduate
students as scientists with a holistic view of rural and agricultural systems
while also providing individual postgraduates with training in specific
discipline areas of rural science. Within the undergraduate programs there
is now also scope for agricultural management orientated training.
All the disciplines
within the new School have established national and international reputations
for their research-led teaching, particularly in the successful Bachelor
of Rural Science and also in postgraduate courses. Many specialist elective
areas in Rural Science are included in the final year of undergraduate
training and in coursework postgraduate programs.
